        Division 1 - Aberaeron 1 v 0 Llanboidy

With a definite feel of autumn in the air, it was a downbeat, subdued game on Cae Sgwar played in difficult blustery conditions. Aberaeron started best and they should have been ahead in the first five minutes when Gavin Roberts should have scored with the goal at his mercy. They continued to press and although they enjoyed the majority of possession during the first half, no clear-cut chances were forthcoming.

If anything, Llanboidy were the team to test the opposition keeper the most. Though their opportunities were limited to shots from outside the penalty area, they were powerful and on-target which is more than can be said for Aberaeron’ chances.

Perhaps sensing they could get a positive result from the game, Llanboidy started pressing immediately after the restart; it was to prove their undoing. This change in tack left noticeable gaps in the defence and Aeron’s Rhydian Davies took advantage to score the game’s only goal. Worthy of winning any game, Davies found space nicely and gave the keeper no chance in finishing from 25 yards.

Disappointingly, the game was essentially over after an hour following an incident in midfield. A fairly innocuous challenge found two opposing midfielders resorting to a bout of ‘handbags’ which would have soon sorted itself out. Oddly though, an uninvolved Llanboidy player decided that this was more than he could bear and took the law into his own hands. Without wishing to go into further details, his sending-off was deserved and he can have no complaints about it.
Down to ten men, Llanboidy were never going to get back in to the game and the game fizzled out at the end. Aberaeron will be pleased to have won but know they will need to play far better than this to challenge this season. |
